Accused of 'sorcery', family of five commit suicide in Karimnagar village

After being branded as sorcerers, five members of a family, including three girls, committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling of the roof in Kandugula village of Huzurabad mandal on Sunday night. 

Police sources said that the family belonging to Gangireddula community were living in Gangireddy colony in Kandugula village.

The victims were identified as Komuraiah (36), Komuramma (34), Yellamma (10), Komuramma (8) and Anjamma (5).  

The family resorted to this extreme act as recently relatives  and members of their community had branded them sorcerers and thrashed them in Kondapur village of Husnabad mandal.   Fearing that they may be ostracized, the couple first hanged their children to death and later committed suicide, police sources said.

The incident came to light only Monday morning when the locals noticed.
