Braving cold weather, scores of student activists of the All-India Students Federation (AISF) staged a protest in front of the Collectorate by lying down on the main road here on Friday night, demanding immediate redressal of the problems faced by residents of the State-run and self-managed hostels in the district.

Several activists came in a rally to the Dharna Chowk and sat on the main road in pursuit of their demands.

Speaking on the occasion, AISF district secretary Ranjit Kumar alleged that the residents of various social welfare and other State-run hostels were facing a plethora of problems, including lack of proper amenities and blankets to keep themselves warm during winters.

Mild commotion prevailed for some time when a group of demonstrators lied down on the main road. The police swung into action and dispersed them.
