4-year-old girl’s death: torture suspected

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - SANGAREDDY:

Mystery shrouds the death of a four-year-old girl at Malkapur village near here on Thursday. Volunteers of Child Line, an NGO, rushed to the house where the girl, Shahista Saba, was staying when they were tipped off by an anonymous caller that her condition had deteriorated due to torture by inmates. With the help of villagers, the director of Child Line and his staff rushed the girl to the government hospital here in an ambulance but she died before she could be admitted.

It was stated that the girl was in the custody of a policeman Syed Zakir Ahmed and his wife Razia Sultana who claimed to be her parents but local people said the couple had been seeing her only for the past one month. The villagers informed Child Line over the phone that the girl was subjected to torture three days ago. The NGO also conveyed the same to the Superintendent of Police B. Sumati who ordered an inquiry by the local police.

Even as the complaint was being looked into by the police, the organisation got another call on Thursday that the girl was in a bad shape.
