4D theatre on the anvil at Kothagudem

A grand plan is on the anvil to set up a 4D theatre in the coal hub of Kothagudem region to provide a virtual underground mine experience for viewers and showcase the more than a century-old heritage of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

According to sources, the plan is an integral part of the proposed mine tourism project being conceptualised by the State-owned SCCL following the initiative of Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao. Accompanied by several SCCL officials, Mr. Rao visited the eco-park set up by the Western Coal Fields in Maharashtra earlier this month as part of a study tour to explore and implement similar initiatives in Kothagudem.

SCCL officials have reportedly mooted setting up a site museum at the five incline mine at Rudrampur.

The history of the Singareni can be traced back to 1871 when coal reserves were first discovered at Yellendu during the British period, said Mr. Rao.

A plan is being conceptualised to establish a museum in the coal town to familiarise visitors with the history of the SCCL and the spectrum of coal mining operations.

The plan envisages setting up a 4D theatre as part of an exhibition gallery to provide a virtual underground mine tour to visitors, he said, adding that efforts were on to rope in the services of technicians of the Telugu film industry to make the proposed project an exhilarating and informative experience.
