Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi president Manda Krishna Madiga urged Dalits to sport black badges on Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 to protest against the increasing atrocities against the community in Telangana.
Speaking to press persons here on Wednesday, Mr. Madiga said that according to reports released by the police, 86 Dalits were killed in 2015-2016, 433 Dalit women were sexually assaulted in the same period, and about 4,000 Dalits were attacked since the Telangana Rashtra Samithi assumed power in Telangana.
“The ruling party leaders are behind all attacks against Dalits in Telangana. Yellareddy MLA E. Ravinder Reddy encroached Dalit land and his men attacked the land owners for questioning the move. Armoor MLA A. Jeevan Reddy eliminated his political rival, a Dalit, who made allegations against him. It was shown as a road accident but the people know who was behind the incident,” he alleged.
In a recent incident at Manthani, MLA P. Madhu did not act when a Dalit youth died of suspicious circumstances after falling in love with an upper caste girl.
The attacks on the Dalit community increased phenomenally after the TRS came to power in Telangana. The SC Commission chairman and a full-time Social Welfare Minister were not appointed.
“Dalits contributed immensely to the separate Telangana movement. They were offered heaven by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He promised to make a Dalit the first Chief Minister. Now, they are being pushed to a corner as is the case in a feudal society,” Mr. Madiga said.
The Dalits should register their protest on Ambedkar Jayanti by sporting black badges across the State, he said.
