A delegation comprising over a dozen members of the Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee sought to take their agitation to the next level by moving to New Delhi and meeting the powers-that-be.
Led among others by Gandra Mohan Rao and Jitender Reddy, the delegation called on Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Minister for Personnel and Training, Jitender Singh, in quick succession and appraised them of the situation prevailing in Hyderabad and Telangana.
They said apart from the imminent need for bifurcating the High Court, there was also the need to consider rolling back the transfers of judicial officers who hailed from Andhra Pradesh but were posted to Telangana even when there were vacancies in A.P. They wanted the provisional list to be taken back and re-cast.
When contacted, Mr. Mohan Rao told The Hindu that Mr. Sadananda Gowda, Mr. Rajnath Singh and Mr. Jitender Singh had assured them that they would consider the matter, examine the legal position and take action as per law.
On his part, Mr. Gowda is understood to have said that he would meet the Chief Justice of India, Justice T.S. Thakur, on Wednesday afternoon. The agitated advocates said they were forced to bring pressure so that justice was done to the judiciary in Telangana.
They sought to underscore the need for immediate steps to bifurcate the High Court, more so because it was over two years since the State of Andhra Pradesh had been bifurcated.
Back in the State capital, the advocates gave out a call for a ‘Chalo High Court’ on Wednesday and a ‘Chalo Indira Park’ on July 1.
