After acquiring the television rights of actor Rajinikanth's ₹400 crore film 2.0 in three languages — Hindi, English and Telugu — at a whopping price of ₹110 crore, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has announced that it will acquire and venture into production for digital platform in a big way in the future.

Speaking to The Hindu via video conferencing during the launch of ZEE5, a new digital entertainment platform from ZEEL on Wednesday, Punit Goenka, MD and CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, explained the strategy in a cluttered Tamil movie market. “It is going to be a combination of both acquiring and creating content on our own in Tamil. We will be creating productions in the Tamil market, for the Tamil market and by the Tamil market. We are also going to be aggressively acquiring films in the market for the digital platform,” said Mr. Goenka.

ZEE5 will be available across iOS and Android phones, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV stick and Chromecast, and will offer Indian and international television shows, music, Live TV, health and lifestyle content in 12 languages including English, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Punjabi and Hindi.
