The Mahila Court here has awarded life imprisonment to a 29-year-old man for murdering his wife.

According to prosecution, T. Sudalai Madasamy, an unemployed youth from Melmanthai under Soorankudi police station limits, used to harass his wife Thangamani (30), a salt pan worker.

When she was working in a salt pan at Periyasamipuram on June 19, 2015, Sudalai Madasamy went to her workplace and asked for money.

As Thangamani refused to give him money, Sudalai Madasamy hit her with an iron rod, in which the woman sustained a head injury and died on the spot.

Mahila Court Judge (in-charge) N. Rajasekar awarded life imprisonment to Sudalai Madasamy and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on him on Tuesday.
