The Congress should go it alone in Lok Sabha elections in the State, the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Youth Congress has suggested.
If at all an alliance was necessary, the Congress should forge an alliance with those parties which accorded importance to it, said a resolution adopted at the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Youth Congress conference held here on Sunday.
The meet, attended by All India Youth Congress president Rajiv Satav, AICC secretaries, former State presidents and Youth Congress members from the State, also urged the Tamil Nadu government to check illegal sand mining and demanded stern action against offenders. The imposition of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu and the early implementation of Food Security legislation were among the major demands put forward through other resolutions adopted at the day-long conference.
Addressing the functionaries, Mr. Rajiv Satav said the party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi had given a new dimension to the Youth Congress. It was due to Mr. Gandhi that many Youth Congress members got opportunities to be representatives of the people. The Youth Congress had put in place a system of performance measurement wherein the performance of the young party functionaries at the booth and other levels would be judged. Those found performing would be suitably rewarded. The Youth Congress would take care of those performing very hard for the party at the grass root level, Mr. Rajiv Satav said.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and former Union Minister S. Thirunavukkarasar said Youth Congress members should take up people’s problems and strive to strengthen the party at the grass root level besides enhancing the membership.
Among those who took part were former TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan, former MP R. Prabhu, AICC secretary A. Chellakumar, MLA S. Vijayadharini, Tamil Nadu Pradesh Youth Congress president (in charge) Vijay Ilanchezhian, all India general secretary – Tamil Nadu in charge, Liju and all India secretary Lokesh.
