Personnel attached to All Women Police Station (AWPS), Vaniyambadi, on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old youth on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor.
Police said Sathish, a resident of Putheri village, Azhinjikulam, Vaniyambadi taluk had kidnapped a 12-year-old girl. The girl was alone at her father’s shop when Sathish had asked her to come with him saying that her father was at a nearby place repairing a tractor.
He had taken her in his two-wheeler to a mangrove near Madikuppam and raped her. On hearing her call for help, a villager rushed to the spot. Sathish immediately fled on his bike.
Case registered
The girl’s father was informed and a case was registered at the women’s police station, Vaniyambadi.
Police arrested Sathish on Sunday on charges of kidnapping, molesting and raping a minor girl and threatening her.
He has also been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, police said.
