Young man gets heart from Madurai

A heart was airlifted from Madurai to Chennai, where it was transplanted on to a patient. According to the hospitals involved, the donor was a 19-year-old youth from Pudukottai district. He was caught in an accident and declared brain dead at Meenkashi Mission Hospital, Madurai, on April 18. His heart was airlifted at 1.15 p.m. on Wednesday and brought to Chennai at 2.20 p.m. A green corridor was created and the organ reached Fortis Malar Hospital at 2.35 p.m. The recipient was a youth who had had cardiomyopathy, said K.R. Balakrishnan of Fortis Malar Hospital.
