The Telemedicine Society of India (TSI) has inaugurated its chapter at VIT University. A one-day workshop on “Health for all through telemedicine” was organised on the occasion.
The workshop, which was jointly organised by the School of Electronics Engineering of VIT University and TSI, Tamil Nadu chapter, consisted of interactive sessions, live telecast of surgeries from hospitals and demonstration of telemedicine equipment, according to a press release.
Anand A. Samuel, vice chancellor of VIT, released a special issue of TSI bulletin on the occasion. Virendra Kumar, director, Academics and Research, Indian Space Research Organisation, K. Selvakumar, professor of neurosurgery and chairman-telemedicine of Sri Ramachandra University, were present.
Mr. Selvakumar highlighted the importance of telemedicine in offering quality healthcare in remote areas. He added that it aimed to synergise the efforts of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to provide best of medical treatment to patients. He stressed on the role of ISRO in facilitating the programme across the country, the release said.
The role of technology in medicine saw elaborate discussion during the workshop. Nearly 300 participants, including students and faculty members, from various institutions across India were present.
