Women honoured

Rallies and distribution of awards marked the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by the district administration here on Thursday.

They raised slogans stressing the importance of women and their selfless service in nurturing families and societies.

Several women who contributed to the development of the society were honoured with prizes and mementoes.

Renganayaki, Muthu Pandiammal, Revathi as best accountants, Sundari, Jothi Lakshmi, Chitra as best SHG trainers, S. Vasuki, Parvathi and Kozhunthai as best social experts, Neelavathi, Sumathi and Banumathi as best sportspersons, Chinnathai, Dukkaiammal and Lalitha as best administrators, Kuppathal, Podhumani and Thangammal as achievers among differently abled persons, Jayachitra, Easwari and Vijayalakshmi as best social workers and D. Indirani, Chitra Devi and Rajalakshmi as best coordinators were honoured on the occasion.

Kalpana Chawla, Malligai and Nallamman SHGs were adjudged as the best performing Self Help Groups.

Awareness rally

Members of village poverty eradication committees, panchayat level federation and self help groups took part in the rally which was flagged off by Collector T.N. Hariharan from his camp office and ended at Rock Fort after passing through prime roads in the town.
