Woman’s body exhumed

A team of doctors from Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College here exhumed the body of a 68-year-old woman at a burial ground and conducted post-mortem examination in the presence of Tahsildar Chinnathambi and K. Gokula Ramanan, Head of the Department, Department of Forensic Medicine, Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, here on Tuesday.

The woman Alamelu died last year. The post-mortem examination was done following a demand from relatives suspecting foul play.

According to sources, Periyasamy of Chinna Kollapatti lodged a compliant with Kannankurichi police that Rs. 1 lakh was missing from his house and suspected that his son Logesh might have taken in. But, later Senthil of the same area handed over Rs. 1 lakh to Periyasamy that Logesh had given him. Hence, Periyasamy approached the police and asked them to close the case.

Suspecting foul play, the police held inquiries with Logesh and Senthil. It was revealed on April 26, 2015, that Logesh and his friend Vishnu murdered Alamelu and robbed of her jewellery. The police arrested Logesh, Vishnu and Senthil.

Alamelu’s son Arul said that she was a diabetic and they believed her death was due to it. “We thought she fainted and died at the bathroom. Hence we buried her,” he added.
