“Withdraw loan recovery rights given to Reliance”

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

Condemning the State Bank of India’s selling of non-performing assets (NPAs) in the education loan portfolio to Reliance Asset Reconstruction Company, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) here on Monday demanded scrapping the MoU signed by the SBI with Reliance.

Addressing an agitation in front of the State Bank of India’s main branch, N. Murugesan, district secretary of the party, urged the State government to help students repay their loans availed from banks.

He said though the party was of the opinion that the students should repay the loans, selling NPAs to the company would only aggravate the problems of those who could not repay it.

In spite of repeated pleas, the State government and the NDA government at the Centre were pursuing “anti-people” policies, Mr. Murugesan alleged. The agitation was led by Nagercoil area secretary Meenakshi Sundaram. State Executive Committee Member S. Noor Mohamed inaugurated it.
