MDMK General Secretary Vaiko on Saturday said that he would not withdraw his statement in which he alleged that the DMK has offered money and 80 seats to DMDK for forging an alliance for the State Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of People’s Welfare Front lawyers’ conference, he said that he had received a legal notice from the DMK demanding apology for his statement and it was not new for him to get a legal notice from the Dravidian major. Mr. Vaiko claimed that DMK president M. Karunanidhi would not have thought of filing a case against him and may not have been aware of such development till Friday.

Tamilisai joins issue

Meanwhile, BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan has also taken exception to Vaiko’s comments that the BJP had offered ministerial berths to Vijayakant in its attempt to woo him.

“Vaiko has said that we negotiated with DMDK. It casts aspersions on Vijayakanth and Premalatha. It belittles the trust the two had reposed in Vaiko,” she said. Besides showing his alliance partner in bad light, the statement has also smeared the reputation of the BJP, she added.
