Water released from Grand Anicut for Adi festival

Water has been released from Grand Anicut across the River Cauvery for the delta region people to celebrate ‘Adi 18’ festival slated for August 2.

Water released from Mettur Dam for Adi fest reached Grand Anicut on Saturday morning.

The realisation at Grand Anicut was 3,500 cusecs at 4 p.m. on Saturday while the PWD authorities were discharging 2,015 cusecs in Cauvery, 1,004 cusecs in Vennar and 501 cusecs in Grand Anicut Canal.

Water released into the Cauvery has touched the banks of Tiruvaiyaru while that discharged into the Vennar reached Thenparambur and that released into the Grand Anicut Canal would reach Thanjavur town on Sunday, according to PWD sources.
