Regional election officers and revenue inspectors were trained on the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system on Saturday.
The VVPAT will enable the voters to verify if their votes were cast as they intended to.
On May 16, the day of the Assembly polls, VVPAT system will be implemented in Vellore constituency for the first time.
There will be a separate machine next to the ballot unit and a receipt like that of an ATM slip will be generated.
The slip will automatically cut and fall into a tray in the machine.
The system’s functioning was demonstrated to regional election officers and revenue inspectors of Vellore constituency.
Collector and District Election Officer R. Nanthagopal inaugurated the training programme.
He later instructed the booth agents to expedite works to verify the names and addresses of voters in their booth limits, according to a press release.
