DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Saturday made a fervent plea “for a change, and not disappointment”, warning that another opportunity for the AIADMK would create another Chembarambakkam tragedy.
Launching his election campaign from Saidapet and introducing the candidates of the DMK and its alliance partners, Mr. Karunanidhi said the consequences of not voting the DMK to power would be severe. The DMK leader confined his speech to the release of water from Chembarambakkam and its devastating impact on the city, and wondered whether the people of Tamil Nadu voted for the AIADMK only to witness such a tragedy.
Mr. Karunanidhi said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa did not bother to visit flood-hit areas. “When the Maharani (Queen) chose to visit, she made a helicopter trip and looked down at the victims,” he said.
