Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, paid a visit to INS Parundu, the Naval Air Station at Uchipuli near here on Sunday.
Mr. Chopra’s visit assumes significance in the backdrop of the district police alerting all the departments and tightening coastal security following an anonymous call regarding intruders landing on the coast on Friday night.
However, sources said the visit of the Vice Admiral, accompanied by his wife was a scheduled one and part of an inspection programme.
The Vice Admiral wound up the day’s programme after offering worship at the Sri Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram with family members, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police N.M.Mylvahanan said the high alert on coastal security following Friday night’s anonymous call continued on Sunday.
“Still valid”
“The input is still valid and we can not take risk,” the SP told The Hindu .
District police, Coastal Security Group and other agencies had stepped up security on the coastal stretch following the anonymous call on Friday night.
