Vellore turns colder as temperature dips

Vellore turned colder in the last few days as temperature has been falling.

In fact, the weekend turned out to be among the coldest days since the beginning of this month.

Residents of Vellore have been experiencing chilly weather for quite sometime now. But the days have turned colder since January 5 when the minimum temperature dipped to 16.8 degree Celsius from 20.2 degree Celsius on January 4, according to data available with the Meteorological Office, Vellore.

From then, the fall in temperature continued. The minimum temperature dropped to 16.3 degree Celsius on January 6, and it dipped further to 15.8 degree Celsius on January 7 and 8.

An official of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, said in north Tamil Nadu, the minimum temperature was two to three degrees lesser than the normal temperature.

“The land is cold and there are more northerly winds,” he said.

In south Tamil Nadu, the minimum temperature was one to two degrees lower than usual, the oficial added.

He said that a low pressure area has formed. The weather could be cloudier and there could be winds too.

“The temperature will go above normal soon,” he added.

In fact, in the last five years, the lowest minimum to be recorded in Vellore during the month of January was 14.8 degree Celsius on January 11, 2015.

This was followed by 15.9 degree Celsius on January 18, 2017, according to the website of the RMC, Chennai. The all-time record of lowest temperature, nevertheless was 10.2 degree Celsius on January 27, 1999.
