The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) led by the Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) has announced its support to the PMK candidates in the seats where the alliance is not in the fray.
Gesture of reciprocation
In a statement, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said it was a gesture of reciprocation, since the PMK had already taken a stand to support VCK candidates where the PMK was not contesting.
A few days ago, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said his party would support the VCK candidates in Cuddalore and Nellikuppam municipalities.
The VCK and 19 minority organisations that are part of the PDA is contesting in all the 10 municipal corporations, while the PMK is in the fray in nine municipal corporations barring Madurai.
The VCK alone is contesting in seven municipal corporations, but its candidate in Madurai decided to stay away from the contest.
The PMK has fielded its candidates for the post of chairmen in 67 municipalities and presidents of 139 town panchayats. But there are 125 municipalities and over 500 town panchayats in the State and the PMK will support the PDA candidates in the seats where it is not contesting.
Appeal to cadre
Mr Thirumavalavan called upon the cadres of his party and other organisations to support the PMK candidates.
