DMDK leader to consult his partymen before taking a decision

Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday requested DMDK leader Vijayakant to be part of the DMK alliance for the Lok Sabha polls to keep the “communal” BJP and the “casteist” PMK at bay.

Second meeting

Mr. Thirumavalavan, who met Mr. Vijayakant at his party office, said the actor-turned-politician agreed to reveal his stand after taking into consideration the views of his partymen at the State conference on February 2.

This is the second meeting between the two leaders.

“I have been asking him to join the alliance in which we are a partner. Today, I directly told him to join us. Anyway, it is for Mr. Vijayakant to take a final decision,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said.

Asked about the meeting between Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi, and the stand of the VCK if the Congress rejoined the alliance, he said the question was hypothetical.

To a question whether his party would be with the DMK even if it admitted the Congress, he said elections were months away, and he would take a decision depending on the situation then.

Mr. Thirumavalavan said he had also requested the DMK to keep a distance from both the BJP and the Congress, and the DMK’s general council adopted a resolution to the effect.

“I called on Mr. Karunanidhi to thank him for the resolution of the general council,” he said responding to a query on his party's position on a possible DMK-BJP alliance.
