If passports are to be made bilingual, the alternative language used should be the individual’s mother tongue, rather than Hindi alone, Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan has said.
Mr. Vasan’s comments come in the wake of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s announcement that passports would be printed both in English and Hindi, instead of English alone.
In a statement, Mr. Vasan warned that the people of Tamil Nadu will not accept the imposition of Hindi in this respect.
