Forest Department officials have imposed a total ban on two-wheeler ride to prime tourist locations, especially Moyar Point and Guna Caves, owing to intensified movement of wild animals and heavy mist that blinds the vision of riders, according to sources.

The ban will be in force till the severe cold climate continues. The officials said the main objective of the ban was to ensure safety and protection of tourists in remote places.

Wild animals, especially Indian gaurs, were often sighted at several tourist spots even during daytime.

At present major tourist spots like Moyar Point, Pine Forests, Guna Caves and Pillar Rock were under the control of Forest Department.

The officials had already prevented tourists from going to Berijam Lake area owing to the movement of wild elephants. A herd of elephants had camped near the lake area. The officials took the decision to minimise human-animal conflicts, they said.

Kodaikanal witnessed a sudden spurt in arrival of tourists owing to extended holidays, they said.
