Two persons were killed in a blast at an illegal fireworks-making unit near Tirupattur on Tuesday.

Police said Gandhi (42) and Ponnurangam (45) of Adiyathur village were engaged in making crackers including those that are used during funeral processions. They were making the country-made fireworks without obtaining permission/licence. They had also stocked the materials and crackers inside a thatched hut on the land belonging to one Anandan, the police said. At about 1.30 p.m. on Monday, the duo was making fireworks close to the hut when the blast occurred. They were killed on the spot. One of them was blown into pieces in the impact.
