Two killed, 10 injured in van-lorry collision

Two persons were killed and 10 passengers injured when a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus proceeding to Tirupur from Madurai rammed a stationary lorry near a check-post at Oddanchatram in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were TNSTC bus conductor Rajagopal (50) of Dharapuram and passenger G. Jayakumar (30) of Vilathikulam.

Jayakumar died on the spot and Rajagopal succumbed to his injuries at Oddanchatram Government Hospital.

The injured passengers were rushed to Oddanchtram GH. Seven of them were referred to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.

The police said that the bus driver, who lost control, rammed the bus into a charcoal-laden lorry which was parked on the left side of the road. The driver had parked the lorry on roadside and went to a tea shop near the check-post. In the impact of the collision, the entire left portion of the bus was damaged. The lorry was proceeding to Coimbatore from Tuticorin.
