Four months after the heist in Bank of Baroda’s Kundarapalli branch, police had arrested two persons. However, questions remain on the insurance claims over the 6,037 sovereigns of gold jewellery robbed, pending police certificate on non-recovery.
However, speaking to The Hindu on the progress of the case, Superintendent of Police Kannammal said three teams were exclusively deputed to follow the trail of the accused, many of who had scattered to various States. “Three teams have followed them to Delhi, Gurgaon, and Gujarat and Delhi police are helping us out.” As of date, 1.5 kg of jewellery has been recovered.
As for the 6,037 sovereigns of gold jewellery robbed in the heist, the insurance claims to remediate the loss of customers could only be made by the bank after the police issue a certificate stating that the stolen jewellery could not be recovered.
“However, such a certificate stating non-recovery to the bank will not be possible until year-end, and also since the police were still on case trail,” Ms. Kannammal said.
