Two forest guards have been placed under suspension for allegedly helping strangers, who recently intruded into the restricted Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) in search of precious stones.

On getting information about the gang, a team of forest personnel rushed to the spot last Tuesday afternoon and nabbed seven persons who were digging a particular spot inside the restricted forest area with crowbars and spades. During enquiry, they told that they had sneaked into the restricted area in search of precious stones including diamonds based on the information provided by two forest personnel. Two guards - Baharmalai beat in Mundanthurai Ashok Kumar and Parivirisooriyan beat in Thirukkurungudi Karnan - were placed under suspension on Friday.
