A fisherman of Thoduvai near Sirkazhi was reported missing after a boat capsized off the Nagapattinam coast on Tuesday.

Sources said a group of four fishermen of Thoduvai ventured into the sea on a fibre boat on Tuesday. Their boat capsized when they were fishing in the deep waters about 13 nautical miles from Thoduvai. Ramkumar (30), Manivannan (48) and Veeraselvam (32) managed to return to the shore with the help of fellow fishermen fishing in the same area but Chandrakasan (60) went missing.

In another incident, five fishermen of Thoduvai had a narrow escape after the boat by which they ventured into the sea capsized in the sea because of choppy waters. By noticing an untoward incident, a group of fishermen fishing in the area rushed there and rescued Cladant (35), Manikandan (40), Anjappan (50) and Devendran (55) and brought them to the shore.

However, they could not locate the capsized boat. Based on complaints, the authorities have launched a search operation to rescue Chandrahasan.
