The police arrested two persons under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to police, a 16-year-old girl was in love with one G. Ragupathi, a petrol bunk employee of Umayalpuram, and had become pregnant.

When she told Ragupathi about it, he directed the girl to a medical shop near Pethanayakkanapalayam bus stop a few days ago. The shop owner, I. Nawab, gave her some pills and asked her to come again on Saturday. When the girl went to the medical shop on Saturday, Nawab took her into the shop under the pretext of administering an injection and sexually assaulted her, police said. After returning home, she informed her parents. Her relatives ransacked the medical shop on Sunday and set on fire Nawab’s two-wheeler. The Yethapur police rushed to his rescue and took him into custody. Police also arrested Ragupathi.

Cases under Section 5 (L) and 6 of POCSO Act and Section 312 of IPC were registered against them, police said. Two persons have been arrested for ransacking the medical shop.
