Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam, accompanied by several Tamil scholars, paid tributes at the statue of nationalist Tamil poet, Subramania Bharathiar, on the occasion of his 127th birth anniversary on Friday.
They visited the Bharathiar Museum and Research centre in the premises of the house here, where the poet lived for eleven years in the early part of his life.
Bharathiar had penned several soul stirring songs and lyrics airing his zeal for freedom. Among the lyrics he wrote during his sojourn in Puducherry when it was a French colony included `Kuyil Paatu`, his magnum opus.
The Puducherry government acquired part of the house where Bharathiar lived and converted it to a research centre.
Several pictures and literary materials projecting historic events in his life are showcased at the centre.
