A fishing trawler crossing the Pamban channel under the Scherzer’s span of the century-old Pamban rail bridge got stuck in the span, creating a flutter on Friday.
The vessel, part of more than 20 boats, was passing from south to north when the elevated angles in the wheel house got stuck in the span. It was held up in the position for about half an hour, and the local fishermen helped retrieve it.
Finally, the passed through the span.
Railway sources said the boat came close to the centre point before the span was fully lifted and got stuck. After the span was lifted, the vessel passed through it, the sources said.
Official inspected the span and noticed no damage, they said.
The incident took place around 1 p.m., when there was no train service.
Later in the evening, train services were operated as usual, the sources added.
