In a shocking incident, a transgender identified as Madhumitha (23) allegedly committed suicide after being humiliated by some youths here on Friday.
A graduate in English, Madhumitha, a native of Vedaranyam, had come here 10 years ago and was living with some 60 transgenders in Ramanathan Nagar here.
It is said that two days ago, when Madhumitha was returning home in the night, three youths in the locality had humiliated and forced the transgender to indulge in sex. Since the trio tortured and teased Madhumitha, the transgender fled the scene.
Dejected over the humiliation, Madhumitha was suspected to have consumed poison late in the night. Other transgenders in the locality rushed Madhumitha to the government hospital, where the doctors declared the transgender as “brought dead.”
Expressing their anger, a group of transgenders went to the Adivaram police station and lodged a complaint demanding the arrest of the three youths.
