Training programme on marketing strategies

A training programme on marketing strategies for fish and fishery products was organised for fisherwomen by the Department of Fisheries Economics of Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI), Tuticorin, at Mettupatti.

D. Sukumar, Professor and Head (in-charge), Department of Fish Processing Technology, in a statement here on Friday, emphasised the scope of consumer demand-driven fish marketing techniques and encouraged the fisherwomen to take up business initiatives in fisheries sector.

Topics on current status of domestic and export marketing in fisheries sector, price determination and advanced market strategies for fish and fishery products were taught during the programme. A survey on consumer preference and acceptance on commercially vialable shrimp pickle and value-added fishery products was also conducted.

M. Rajakumar, Professor, and T. Umamaheswari, Assistant Professor, coordinated the programme in association with Reliance Foundation, Mumbai.
