Prohibited from entering Bengaluru, Udupi and Hassan recently, VHP leader Praveen Togadia now faces a similar ban in Mysuru, which is hosting the Virat Hindu Samajotsava on Wednesday.
Ahead of the samajotsava, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 (3) of Cr.P.C, banning the entry of Dr. Togadia into Mysuru district for five days, from March 9 to 13. The order also prohibits playing of any video and audio CD/tape of Dr. Togadia during this period anywhere in Mysuru district.
Ms. Shikha said the orders had been issued after examining the reports submitted by Mysuru City Police Commissioner and Superintendent of Mysuru district and other senior police officials.
The report submitted by the City Police Commissioner had said that a large number of followers of the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and the Sri Rama Sena from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and other neighbouring districts are expected to actively participate in the samajotsava, which might be addressed by Dr. Togadia.
“Provocative and inflammatory speeches of Dr. Praveen Bhai Togadia, towards which he is habitually and ideologically inclined, would have sufficiently grave consequences, and there is every likelihood of breach of peace, danger to human life and disturbance of human tranquillity and communal harmony in Mysuru city” the report said. In her orders, Ms. Shikha said she was convinced that there is every likelihood of disturbance to public tranquillity and communal harmony in Mysuru district and the city if a speech by Dr. Togadia is not prevented.
