Urging the State government to initiate stringent action against adulterators of food items, members of Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement staged an agitation by posting letters to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa here on Friday.
Addressing mediapersons, coordinator of the movement C. Nallusamy said that adulteration of food items have paved way for increase in number of patients and hospitals in the State. Instead of providing freebies, the government should take steps to stop adulteration, he added.
He pointed out that industrial oil is mixed with edible oil and sold in many parts of the State.
“It causes cancer, yet no action has been taken so far,” he added. He said that adulteration in starch, oil and other food items have now become rampant and demanded action against the adulterators.
Mr. Nallusamy urged the State government to remove the ban on toddy tapping and sale which the Bihar government had done recently. Hence, seeking action against adulteration and also revoking ban on toddy, he along with other members posted letters at the Head Post Office in the city on Friday evening.
