Almost six months after the headless Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) became a one-member body, the government has appointed G. Rajagopal, Director (Finance) in the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), as a member of the Commission.
An appointment order to this effect was issued on Tuesday night. The Commission, whose primary function is to determine the tariff for generation, supply, transmission and wheeling of electricity within the State, has been functioning without Chairperson after S. Kabilan laid down office exactly two years ago. [About one-and-a-half years ago, a public interest litigation petition on expeditious completion of the process of selection of candidate for the post of TNERC chairperson was filed in the Madras High Court, which has reserved judgment.]
After K. Venugopal completed his term in July last, the TNERC had been having only one member – S. Nagalsamy – who is part of the Commission since September 2010.
