TNEB implements BLY scheme in Cuddalore circle

October 13, 2010 01:32 am | Updated 01:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has implemented as a pilot project Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY) scheme in Cuddalore Electricity Distribution Circle covering nearly 4.5 lakh domestic consumers.

An official release said the project would be completed by December, which would give a load reduction of nearly 30 MW.

The scheme was launched by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which envisaged effective replacement of existing incandescent bulbs with equivalent rating of quality Compact Fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for metered and billed domestic consumers at reduced prices.

The State government issued an order in this regard on September 14 permitting the TNEB to implement the energy efficiency programme under BLY for replacing existing incandescent bulbs in domestic sector with CFLs in the State.

Implementation of the project for the entire 1.35 crore domestic consumers would result in peak load reduction of approximately 500 to 600 MW in the TNEB grid.

The first phase covering 60 per cent of the project area comprising nearly 82 lakh domestic consumers is expected to be completed by December next year.

For the balance 40 per cent, tendering is under process and the work will begin shortly, the release added.
