Awaiting instructions from AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has deferred till 9 a.m. on Saturday its decision on which way to vote on the motion of confidence to be moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

At a press conference held at the party headquarters on Friday evening, TNCC president Su. Thirunavukkarasar said that he would announce the party’s decision two hours ahead of the confidence motion.

“All the eight Congress MLAs will reach the Assembly at 11 a.m. tomorrow. They will vote according to the directives from our leaders,” he said.

The TNCC meeting, in which past presidents also participated, lasted for two hours in which the views of every leader was recorded and faxed to Mr. Rahul and Mukul Wasnik, party in-charge of the State.

Congress’ Legislative Party leader K.R. Ramasamy said, “We continue to be in an alliance with the DMK. There is a chance the high command will ask us to follow the DMK’s position.”

Another MLA, who was at the meeting, also said that the party was likely to go with the DMK’s decision as the new AIADMK government led by Mr. Palaniswami and backed by Sasikala and her family was unpopular and tainted by corruption charges.

Former TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan said he will complain to the national leadership about the conduct of his successor, who he alleged supports jailed AIADMK leader V.K. Sasikala.
