T.N. will turninto a desert,warns Stalin

DMK working president M.K. Stalin said he would mobilise people and farmers against the government if it goes ahead with its plans to open 70 new sand quarries.

In a statement, he said the government’s sudden interest in opening new quarries would cause irreparable damage to the environment and lead to shortage of water for drinking and agriculture. He said that the sand mafia had already ravaged the natural resources through 35 quarries, which had resulted in severe depletion of groundwater. “The decision would further damage the water sources in the State and convert Tamil Nadu into a desert. It will also lead to creation of mafia operators like Sekar Reddy,” he alleged
