The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam has appealed to Collector M. Karunakaran to instruct the police to initiate action against its former office-bearer who is allegedly indulging in unlawful activities.

The petitioners said the past district president of TMMK, Maideen Farook, was expelled from the party recently after he was involved in a series of anti-social activities and police cases were registered against him.

When Mr. Maideen Farook approached the Madras High Court with the prayer of seeking his reinstatement, his petition was dismissed.

“However, using the TMMK’s name, he is conducting ‘kangaroo court,’ extorting money from traders, encroaching upon government lands and properties belonging to mosques. Though cases against Mr. Maideen Farook and his associate ‘Bullet’ Nazir have been filed in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, Tirunelveli Junction, Melapalayam and Tirunelveli Town police stations, the duo is yet to be arrested,” said K.K. Abbas Hilmi, the district secretary of the party.

The petitioners also said Mr. Maideen Farook and Mr. Nazir were threatening one Radhakrishnan of Shanthi Nagar, who was the owner of a building where the TMMK office was functioning and demanding money from him for getting the office vacated.

Action sought

“Since the duo is involved in unlawful activities with the intention of creating rift between religions, the Collector should instruct the police to take action against the duo based on the cases filed against them,” Mr. Abbas said.
