In a hit-and-run case, three women were killed and six persons were injured after a lorry rammed into the bullock cart in which they were travelling near Natrampalli during the early hours of Friday.

Police said the nine persons – all relatives – were travelling in the cart from their village Ezharaipatti in Athurkuppam, Natrampalli taluk to take part in a temple festival at Natrampalli.
When the cart was plying on the National Highway 48 (Vaniyambadi to Krishnagiri stretch) near Athurkuppam, the lorry that was coming behind rammed into the cart.
The vehicle did not stop after causing the accident, police said. Two persons travelling in the cart - Kasturi (54) and Sanjala (18) - succumbed to injuries on the spot, while Jayashree (31) died at the Tirupattur Government Hospital.
Six others, including four women, sustained injuries in the accident that occurred at 3.20 a.m.
The injured have been admitted to the GH for treatment, police said. Natrampalli police have registered a case and are investigating.
