Accusing the DMK and the AIADMK of practicing “use and throw” policy on small political parties after they “served their utility,” Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday called upon the PMK, MDMK, the Left parties and the Muslim outfits to come together to provide an alternative front in Tamil Nadu politics.

“Their attitude towards small political parties smacked of an imperious attitude because they have not even consulted their allies before releasing list of candidates for the local body polls. We are shocked by the unilateral decision of the DMK to release its candidate list,” he told reporters.

Mr. Thirumavalavan said the decision of these Dravidian parties would not augur well for small parties and organizations representing the minority communities.

He said VCK’s efforts to bring together political parties such as the PMK and the MDMK wedded to the ideology of Tamil nationalism and Eelam cause fell through because PMK had decided to go it alone in the elections.

He said the even now the Left parties and like minded parties could create a platform for an alternative front in the State.

“We are ready to wait a couple of days for the Left parties to respond to our invitation. It it does not happen we will contest alone in the elections,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said.

Paramakudi clash

Reiterating his party’s demand for a CBI inquiry into Paramakudi police firing, the Dalit leader said the judicial inquiry into the incident would not get justice to the Dalits since these commissions were normally expected to give a report much to the liking of the ruling party.

He alleged that there were large scale irregularities in the reservation for SC/STs and women in the local body polls.

“In Madurai Corporation only six seats have been reserved. There is a conspiracy to deny the SC/STs their due in the local bodies. Though the roaster system is supposed to come into effect once in ten years, now many reserved seats have become general seats in five years,” he said.
