After a gap of one week, the third unit of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) resumed generation on Monday evening. The authorities took a decision to this effect following a significant fall in wind power generation.
Currently, three units of the TTPS were functional and the first and the second units were kept on standby, sources told The Hindu here on Tuesday.
Each of the five units had a generation capacity of 210 MW. Heavy rainfall in various parts of the State resulted in the decline in power generation from wind turbines. Wind power generation in the State fell to record low of 754 MW on Monday. Of this quantity, wind mills established in Tirunelveli Circle contributed 675 MW – 263 MW from Shencottah pass area and 412 MW from Aralvaimozhi area, the sources said.
On Sunday, 826 MW of wind power was generated in the State.
The sources said the peak electricity consumption demand of 13,003 MW was recorded at 7.05 p.m. on Monday. The demand was 11,765 MW at 7.40 a.m. on Tuesday and it decreased to 10,735 MW at 1.50 p.m.
As much as 1,258 MW of solar power was generated in the State on Monday, the sources said.
