Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena on Thursday launched the third phase of ‘Operation Muskan –III’, a month-long campaign to trace and rescue missing and abandoned children.

Accompanied by Additional SPs T. Inbamani (headquarters) and S. Velladurai (Prohibition and Enforcement Wing) and officials from Child Protection Unit, Childline and Social Welfare departments, he flagged off a van dedicated to Ramanathapuram block.

Six teams have been formed, each headed by a Inspector of Police, to comb the entire district to trace and rescue the children.

Gandhimathinathan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Crime Record Bureau, would supervise the operation and Kavitha, Inspector of Police, Anti-Human Trafficking wing, would monitor the campaign and send reports to the government.

The teams would visit 206 places in the district as part of the combing operation, S. Duraimurugan, District Child Protection Officer, said. Besides the police, each team would comprise representatives from Child Protection Unit, Childline and the social welfare department, he said.

According to the latest police data, nine children had been reported missing from the district. If they traced and found to belong to other districts and States, they would be handed over to the respective districts and States through the Child Welfare Centre.

The State government has advised officials to ensure availability of food, clothes, medical aid, professional translators, psychiatrists and shelter homes for rehabilitation of the rescued children till they were reunited with their families, he added.
