Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary and DMDK-PWF-TMC combine coordinator Vaiko has alleged that the Adani group company has set up the solar power plant here with the hidden agenda of launching methane extraction project.

Addressing an election rally here on Saturday, he said the Adani group company, which “is the right hand company” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set its foot in this part of the State with an eye on gas extraction project, which, if allowed, would ravage the entire fertile lands and water resources.

Alleging that the ruling AIADMK government had signed an agreement with the company to purchase the solar power at an exorbitant rate of Rs.7.01 per unit after receiving huge kickbacks, he said the solar power project was only a pretext as the company would ultimately venture into gas extraction.

“We will drive out the company after mobilising the local people if the DMDK-PWF-TMC combine was voted to power,” Mr Vaiko said and blamed DMK leader M K Stalin for signing the coal bed methane extraction project in the Cauvery delta region.

Recalling the series of agitations he had launched on the Cauvery, methane and Mullaiperiyar issues, Mr Vaiko said Tamil Nadu would witness a new dawn only if the people voted the DMDK-PWF-TMC combine to power.

Dismissing the poll surveys as ‘paid surveys’, he said both the AIADMK and the DMK had already pumped in huge amount of money to buy votes. The Third Front pinned hopes on youth and new voters, he said and requested them to speak to their parents and elders and channelise their votes as well to the front.
