Thanjavur Big Temple moat to be renovated

The moat around Big Temple will be renovated, filled with water and boating introduced, said N.Subbaiyan, District Collector, here on Thursday.

He inspected the moat, Grand Anicut canal where development works are going on at the southern side of the temple, east, north and south Alangams around Periyakottai moat, Karunasamy temple tank and compost yard at Srinivasapuram. He said that Asian Development Bank (ADB) fund to the tune of Rs 200 crore has been sought for renovating the moat.

Work will commence after the fund is received.

The Collector also inspected the beautification works going on the banks of Grand Anicut canal. PWD has taken up the works at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. He instructed the PWD engineers to expedite the work.

He said that work was going on at a cost of Rs. 90 lakh for generating electricity from the garbage at the compost yard at Srinivasapuram.

Savithiri Gopal, Mayor, Varadarajan, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), accompanied the Collector.
