Tension at village

January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:10 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

There was tension for some time between two groups of people over arrangements for a temple festival at Pallanguzhivilai near Thiruvattar on Tuesday night.

According to police, as part of a three-day festival, some persons were making arrangements for the stage, decoration and sound system. A group of people belonging to another religion raised objections, saying the festival organisers had not obtained permission from the authorities.

Padmanabapuram MLA Pushpa Leela Alban, DMK West district unit in charge Mano Thangaraj among others arrived at the spot to defuse tension. Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan and Thuckalay ASP Vikrant Patil also arrived and held talks with both the parties. After it was confirmed that the organisers did not obtain permission for using loudspeakers, they were removed.

A posse of police personnel was posted there to prevent untoward incidents.
