M. Vasanthi, the Tenkasi MP who was until recently with the camp led by sidelined deputy general secretary of the AIADMK (Amma), T.T.V. Dhinakaran, on Friday switched over to the camp led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

After calling on the CM, Ms. Vasanthi told reporters that she decided to switch her allegiance after realising that Mr. Dhinakaran was “keen on dislodging this government that was installed by Amma [Jayalalithaa]” by collaborating with the DMK.

When it was pointed out that she was one of the five MPs who had signed a letter addressed and submitted to the Election Commission last week against decisions taken at a meeting of the joint general council held by the AIADMK (Amma, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) on September 12, Ms. Vasanthi claimed that even though she went to the Commission’s office along with other MPs, she did not enter the office.
